Discovery

I used to have a very limited taste for music. In a sense, I used to almost exclusivly listen to Oldies (and Christmas Music ofcourse).

Then one year for my birthday I got two Pearl Jam albums, Vs. and Ten. That is when I first started getting into more current forms of music. Despite that I was still very closed minded and I have found myself reaching into past eras of music to extract songs I like now and really should have liked then.

Its an interesting development, considering there are a lot of bands delving deeper into our musical history for inspiration. I mean, when 'Grunge' hit there was a ton of Grunge bands all of a sudden, when 'Punk' finally imploded on itself and became more mainstream, suddenly there were tons of Punk bands. It goes on and on like that, but I think the current musical pallette (while still suffering from that) is more divirsified than ever.

I guess Im not even sure what I am saying really. I don't normally talk about music, I just happen to be more than happy with how my collection has grown.

Here is a list of the last 25 songs I have downloaded:

Here It Goes Again - O.K. Go
Lips of an Angel - Hinder
Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
Woman - Wolfmother
Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother
White & Nerdy - "Weird Al" Yankovic
Steady As She Goes - The Raconteurs
I Write Sins Not Tragedies - Panic! At the Disco
Don't Wait - Dashboard Confessional
Into the Ocean - Blue October
Hate Me - Blue October
With or Without You - U2
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2
Gangsta's Paradise - Coolio
One - U2
Pride (In the Name of Love) - U2
Summer In the City - The Lovin' Spoonful
In the Year 2525 - Zager & Evans
Soul to Squeeze - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Otherside - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Barbie Girl (Radio) - Aqua
D & D - Stephen Lynch
Give It Away - Red Hot Chili Peppers

I know, its kind of a strange collection of songs. If you dig even deeper, it just gets even more strange. Right at this moment I am downloading Knights of Cydonia - Muse.

And here is a list of some of the songs I intend to download in the near future (I am currently on Dial up, so I have to pace myself):

Stuck in the Middle with You - Stealers Wheel
American Pie - Don McLean
I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers
No Rain - Blind Melon
Vasoline - Stone Temple Pilots
Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
Walkin' On the Sun - Smash Mouth
Firestarter - The Prodigy
Fly - Sugar Ray
One Headlight - The Wallflowers
Time Is Running Out - Muse
Hysteria - Muse

As far as things go, I would really like to add some Metallica to that list. I really like what Metallica I have so far (Load and the Black Album), but beyond that my exposure to them is limited. Its nice that they are finally available on iTunes.

In my more recent downloads you will see that I purchased two Wolfmother songs. I actually like at least 5 of the songs on their album. I had decided to go and pick it up at ShopKo, but when I got there I realized that they had edited the CD cover, which is just not acceptable. If you have a problem with something, dont sell it, Im ok with that. But editing it is unacceptable to me. Understand though, that editing the content of songs is ok with me, as long as it is made available in its original format as well. But the art is harmless (to its target audience) and should have been left intact.

So I decided not to buy it and I downloaded a couple songs when I got home last night.

Well, thats all for now I suppose. I had thought of a really cool subject title for my blog, but I went and forgot the dang thing. Ill try to think of it again and use it another time.
